Fogo Island & St. John’s with Carleton

 Limited availability!

Celebrate Canada’s 150th in Newfoundland and discover the architecture, the spectacular landscapes and seascapes, and a very special way of life at “one of the four corners of the earth.”

Our trip, designed exclusively for Carleton University alumni and friends, begins in St. John’s, the oldest city in North America. We’ll tour the city with its jelly-bean coloured houses and vibrant food and music scene, visit The Rooms, the 2001 storehouse by St. John’s architect Philip Pratt, and meet with Memorial University Professor Sean Cadigan for a presentation on the big issues facing Newfoundland and Labrador.

Then we enjoy four nights at the multi-award-winning Fogo Island Inn, a project by Carleton alumna Zita Cobb and her partners in the Shorefast Foundation. The Inn has an international reputation for exceptional, embodied, place-specific hospitality and bold, thoughtful, humanistic contemporary design.

On Fogo, we’ll tour the island with community hosts, hike to some of the most scenic points, get out to sea, forage for berries, visit the community of Tilting, restored by architect and historian Robert Mellin, and revel in the outstanding views of the ocean. Enjoy meals featuring locally sourced produce, fish and game and ingredients grown on the island showcasing time-honoured outport cooking traditions.

Join fellow Carleton alumni for this exclusive trip to the edge of the earth.
