Kyle Horner

A graduate of the University of Guelph, Kyle Horner is a consummate environmental educator and well-travelled, lifelong naturalist, who has been birdwatching since before he could walk! Following a Wildlife Biology degree at the University of Guelph, he worked as a field technician for a variety of research projects including boreal songbirds in Newfoundland, rattlesnakes in British Columbia and neotropical migrant birds in Arizona. Back in Ontario, he turned his focus to science communication and has taught about nature for parks, outreach programs, zoos, arboreta, non-profits, and the University of Guelph. Kyle is currently the NatureCounts Engagement Coordinator at Birds Canada, where he helps to build awareness and adoption of that innovative bird data platform.

While birds are at the heart of his connection to the natural world, he is enraptured with all aspects of nature and science. Kyle has a special fondness for traditionally maligned creatures and loves to show others the beauty and interest of reptiles, insects, and more. Kyle is currently completing a book on turtles of North America, to be released in 2024!
