Portugal: A Food & Wine Exploration

This tour is sold out! Waitlist only. Go back to all alumni UBC tours.

Discover Portugal’s wine country in the company of one of Canada’s most experienced and enthusiastic winemakers. This is a tour for enthusiasts keen to get to know the character of the country as expressed in its food and wine.

We’ve chosen four distinct regions of the country to explore; opulent Porto, the terraced vineyards of the Douro Valley, the captivating Alentejo, and picture-postcard perfect Lisbon. Along the way, taste vintages with producers who are making a difference and learn about their personal approaches to winemaking. Enjoy exclusive tastings in historic cellars and the most scenic vineyard locations including Graham’s Cellars, Quinta do Castro, Quinta Nova, and Monte da Ravasqueira. Dine in a selection of wonderful restaurants from Rui Paula’s DOP to small wine bars and typical bistros. Enjoy walking tours with expert guides in the beautiful cities of Porto and Lisbon. Get to know Evora and Obidos, two of Portugal’s most beautifully preserved medieval towns and walk the marble cobblestones of Estremoz.

Howard Soon’s commentary, supplemented by our Portuguese wine expert, will provide the context to our daily discoveries. And there is much to discover; over 250 indigenous grape varieties, an exciting food scene, and gorgeous scenery await!
