Silver & Gold: A Yukon Adventure

Jun 16-23, 2020

8 days | Canada | alumni UBC Travel Club

Join alumni UBC Travel Club on a classic Canadian adventure, exploring Yukon’s gold rush (1896-99) history and what came before, in particular the region’s deep-rooted First Nations cultures, and after.

Start in Whitehorse, beautiful, young, and entertaining. Discover another rush on the “Silver Trail”, a historic route that pre-dates the gold rush, taking you through a scenic landscape of lakes, rivers, and mountain ranges passing through prime moose, bear, and wolf habitat. Discover atmospheric Dawson City, the centre of the Klondike Gold Rush. We’ll be there for three nights over the Summer Solstice to experience the longest day of the year just 240 km south of the Arctic Circle.

Oral traditions and archaeological evidence document the presence of indigenous people on this land for more than 12,000 years. As we travel the routes of the gold rush, we’ll be reminded that while the gold rush faded, the grandeur and beauty of the land remains.
