Inside Rajasthan with the Jaipur Literary Festival

Readings: Animal’s People by Indra Sinha and A Princess Remembers: The Memoirs of the Maharani of Jaipur by Gayatri Devi.

This is your opportunity to mix with Nobel laureates, local writers, Man Booker prize winners, and debut novelists; all in all, a remarkable collection of authors who come together for five days of readings, debates, and discussions in Jaipur, the opulent capital of Rajasthan. For more than ten years, a diverse mix of authors and readers from South Asia and around the world has gathered in the “Pink City” for the Jaipur Literature Festival. In January 2020, we’ll join them to attend a choice of over 250 scheduled events.

After meeting in Jaipur, we’ll enjoy two days of events at the festival along with a visit to the storied Amber Fort. It’s then time to go deeper into the “Land of the Kings,” where we’ll combine literary discussions with cultural visits and plenty of time for relaxation. It’s then on to the dazzling blue of Jodhpur to explore the grand fort, the colourful chaos of the city’s bazaars, and several major urban renewal projects. Settle into the 17th century village of Narlai in the green heart of the Aravalli hills for a sense of timeless village life and explore the ramparts of the epic fortress of Chittorgarh. We end our journey on a relaxed note by visiting charming Bundi, a typical Rajasthani village with a fantastical palace.

Publishing legend Tina Brown has called the Jaipur festival “the greatest literary show on earth.” We think you’ll agree! Join us for a unique trip that combines a major literary event with the best of urban and rural Rajasthan.
