The Bay of Fundy and Grand Manan with UofT

The Bay of Fundy boasts the world’s highest tides, and is a hotbed of ocean wildlife, marine history, and plentiful seafood. We’ll be situated at the mouth of the bay in historic St. Andrews by-the-sea on the mainland and then offshore on rugged Grand Manan Island.

We begin at St. Andrews by-the-sea for a three-night stay at a luxury resort. We’ll have the chance to sample fresh seafood, learn the basics of scallop harvesting, and tour the heritage homes and gardens of this New England-style community once settled by United Empire Loyalists who fled to the north following the American Revolution.

After a ferry ride to Grand Manan Island, startling rock formations, coniferous forests, wildflower-filled meadows and tidal pools are the backdrop to our three nights here. Offshore, resident and migratory seabirds join whales in spectacular congregations of marine life. To further our understanding of Fundy’s diverse ocean life, we have arranged an exclusive presentation with a marine biologist.

This short getaway has been specially designed for University of Toronto alumni, family and friends, and anyone seeking to learn about the natural and cultural history of the Bay of Fundy alongside a community of life-long learners.
