Join Canadian actor and director Derek Boyes on a UK theatre adventure! Derek has selected exceptional performances in Stratford, Bristol, Bath, and London. In addition to the plays, you’ll enjoy Derek’s daily presentations and insights, behind the scenes tours, museum visits, and congenial meals.

"Canadian theatre has been shaped by many cultures and countries through the years and one of its strongest influences has been the UK. I invite you to come with me as we explore our theatrical family tree in some of England’s most historic venues.

We begin in the birthplace of William Shakespeare in beautiful Stratford-upon-Avon to see the RSC productions of Blindness and Seeing, part of their “Projeck Europa” initiative, and The Winters Tale and breathe the air that bred the most famous writer in the English language.

We travel next to Bristol to explore and experience the 250-year-old Georgian style Theatre Royal, the oldest continuously working theatre in the English-speaking world and home of the Bristol Old Vic. The Old Vic has a strong reputation for challenging theatre and their production of Gatsby, a radical reimagining of Scott Fitzgerald’s novel sounds enticing, and we will be attending.

Our next stop is a short journey to Bath to immerse ourselves in the Roman built baths and another Theatre Royal, this one built in 1805. We will be seeing a performance of Ronald Harwood’s The Dresser.

Our final stop is London where I am excited to check the theatrical pulse of England’s capital at two of their leading-edge theatre companies.

We will see six plays in nine days, and I will be sharing daily enrichment sessions to add context and excitement to our theatrical and architectural experiences."
