Trinidad & Tobago: A Tropical Birding Hotspot

Mar 13-22, 2022

10 days | Trinidad & Tobago | Quest Nature Tours

Our travellers always enjoy the islands of Trinidad and Tobago. In fact, those who go as self-described “non-birders” usually return as converts! And it’s easy to understand why. The bird life here is astonishingly varied and visible, making for an excellent and relaxed introduction to birds of the New World Tropics. We could observe over 200 bird species during this trip!

We begin our adventure in Tobago, the smaller of the two islands with its own special attractions. We’ll explore the rainforest habitats near our lodge and farther afield, including the world’s very first rainforest reserve! We’ll also take to the tropical seas with a boat trip to the seabird island of Little Tobago, where we’ll watch striking, Red-billed Tropicbirds fly along the cliff faces and Brown Boobies skim the water’s surface.

We then turn our attention to the larger island of Trinidad. Located just off the coast from South America, Trinidad’s bird life will reflect that proximity as we explore lowland and highland rainforest, savanna, and coastal habitats in search of the gaudy Ruby-topaz Hummingbird, Moriche Oriole, and many other feathered wonders. A highlight will be the chance to observe the Scarlet Ibis at their famous evening roost at Caroni Swamp!

If you are looking for a special treat, join us on our next tour to the sunny and warm islands of Trinidad and Tobago.
